Congratulations to Martin Stoffel for winning the Dissertationspreis der Universitätsgesellschaft Bielefeld for the best PhD thesis in the Faculty of Biology in 2018! We all really enjoyed catching up with Martin at the ceremony and are glad to hear how well he’s getting on in Edinburgh.
PhD studentship opportunity
Behavioural ecology meets disease biology and immuno-ecology in Madagascan shorebirds.
We are looking to recruit a PhD student for an exciting new project investigating the immuno-ecological causes of sex ratio bias in three sympatric species of plovers with varying mating systems at a single location in Madagascar.
The student will be based at the Department of Animal Behaviour at Bielefeld University (www.uni-bielefeld.de/biologie/animalbehaviour.html) and jointly supervised by Oliver Krüger, Nayden Chakarov, Joe Hoffman and Tamás Székely. The studentship is funded by the German Science Foundation (DFG) and is available for 3 years.

Martin wins a fellowship!
Congratulations to Martin Stoffel for winning funding for his own position from the German Science Foundation. His project, together with Josephine Pemberton at Edinburgh University, will focus on the genomics of inbreeding depression in Soay sheep. We wish him the best of luck and much fun!
